The hallmark of this release was the completely new admin-side user interface. Development was underway in earnest by July 5, 2009, when the version number was changed internally to 4.0. The conceptual design for the admin UI had been completed, and a release candidate version was released.

Over the next two years leading up to the final release, many other major features were added, including a standalone installer, a Drupal module for easier integration with Drupal, file upload elements, support for writing your own element types with a single “class” file, and fundamental improvements to how data from very complex sets of forms is queried.

Six minor updates followed.
